Foreman Homes, Selbourne Park, Alton
SC4 takes health and safety seriously and is proud of our record. So we were delighted that during a site inspection of SC4's Health and Safety by PIB Risk Management in August 2024, our client, Foreman Homes, said
"the standard of Health and Safety shown by SC4 Carpenters is of a high level that should be commended"
Key points from PIB's report:
PIB's Risk Manager reported that she "was very impressed with the site, it was well organised and it was evident that H&S was important to all personnel on site."
Competence
- SC4 Carpenters employees and staff (LOSC) always comply with Foreman Homes requirements with regards to H&S on site requirements and signing in and out of site.
- All site-based personnel hold CSCS cards along with trade training as a minimum to enable them to carry out their duties with full competence.
- Method statements and risk assessments specific to the site have been issued to SC4 Carpenters employees and staff (LOSC) who have signed a copy. These are compiled by Conrad Hall following a site visit and then briefed.
PPE
- All SC4 Carpenters employees and staff (LOSC) were seen to adhere to the Foreman Homes compulsory 3-point PPE requirements - safety boots, a high visibility vest, and hard hats.
- Face fit testing is carried out for all SC4 Carpenters by SC4's qualified face fitter. The Risk Manager spoke to one of SC4's carpenters on the day who was wearing a Trend Air Shield Pro and he advised he changes the filters religiously every 3 months.
- Signage was placed outside plots currently being worked in advising Danger Men at Work.
Portable Electrical Appliances
- At the time of the site inspection, only battery-operated drills and hand tools were in use.
- Dust extraction unit was onsite and the Risk Manager was satisfied that the power tools are fitted with M Class vacuum dust extraction systems or bags. As part of the SC4 Carpenters RAMS, failure to provide a hoover with dust extraction will result in work being stopped
Manual Handling
- Timber, materials and appliances are manoeuvred on site without the need to manually handle items. All staff have received manual handling training. It was observed that all timber is delivered to the side of the plot limiting the manual handling required. On the day of the assessment, the PIB Risk Management Inspector noted that timbers were in garages labelled for the relevant plot – very well organised.
Client Comments
- There were no reported problems with the health and safety of SC4 Carpenters. The standard of Health and Safety shown by SC4 Carpenters is of a high level and should be commended.
