How to Encourage Women into Construction
SC4 Carpenters Ltd is passionate about encouraging more women into STEM and Construction.
Owner/Director, Katy Hall, believes that changing attitudes to gender from a very young age, and in our day to day interactions, could cause a shift towards this and improve life for all.
If only we can convince ourselves and our children that...
None of these things define gender, nor are they defined by gender:
The colours we like and wear.
The length and style of our hair.
The clothes we wear.
The games and toys we play with as a child.
Our interests and hobbies.
The subjects we enjoy, our skills and the things we excel at.
Our jobs, career choices or the industries we work in.
Whether we are a manager or managed, work in an office or have a more physical job.
Our role at home or as a care-giver.
Our relationships with friends and family.
How kind, empathetic, caring and loving we are.
How strong, brave, assertive, organised, intuitive, sporty or creative we are.
Our personality type.
Our mental and physical health.
Whether we are neurodivergent or neurotypical.
The shape of our bodies.
Our sexuality.
Changing deeply ingrained attitudes is hard to do. This is why change needs to start at a very young age beginning with what we tell our children and how we treat them.
This isn't about ignoring gender differences or creating a gender divide, but is about recognising what is and isn't relevant.
