SC4 Receive CITB Skills and Training Grant Funding
SC4 were recently awarded a £5,000 grant from the CITB Skills & Training Fund, which we are using to fund training for our workforce, as part of our commitment to ongoing quality improvement, professional development, and health and safety.
Our managers, staff, and subcontractors are all encouraged to engage with regular training and professional development courses that align with their job objectives and working patterns. Many of these courses result in accredited qualifications, and involve a combination of classroom learning, self-paced online courses, and on-site tuitions and assessment.
Our current courses and training partners include:
- Site Supervision SSP (SSSTS) and Site Management SSP (SMSTS) training for new supervisors and managers, as well as refresher courses for existing staff.
- Crane Lift Operations Supervisor Red and Blue Cards
- Slinger/Signaller training
- Fire Door Installation and Inspection courses for carpenters and managers.
As well as this, several of our newer team members are working towards their NVQ Level 2 OSATs in Carpentry or Decorating, on top of the company’s ongoing training, taking on 2-3 new Carpentry Apprentices each year.
We would like to extend our thanks to CITB for approving our funding application and enabling us to support our team to achieve their full potential and provide a market-leading carpentry, joinery and decorating service to our customers. #CITBFunding
About The CITB
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) was founded in 1964 to provide high quality training and qualifications for workers in the construction sector. 58 years later, the organisation is still doing an excellent job giving both new and experienced workers access to high-level professional qualifications and skills training – counteracting the much-publicised skills shortage in UK construction.
Through a network of approved training providers, the CITB deliver a wide range of site health and safety courses, card schemes, apprenticeships, and work experience placements for trainees.
The CITB Grants Scheme is open to applications from any employer in the construction industry that delivers work-based training for their employees. Grants can defray the cost of apprenticeships, plant competency courses and testing, NVQs, occupational training, and longer-term qualifications, including degrees, HNDs, and HNCs.
Why Invest In Continual Professional Development (CPD)?
Professional training is the key to quality, competency, and safety – as well the personal development and job satisfaction of our workforce. Our goal as a company is to provide the highest possible standard of carpentry, timber frame installation and decorating to contractors in the new build housing market – delivering each project efficiently, safely and to our customer’s satisfaction.
We recognise that the market is competitive and there is a shortage of skilled workers in some areas, so we strive to meet the challenges of the industry by upskilling and developing our current employees and subcontractors. It is also essential that our team understand and meet the safety and management requirements on various sites, hence our focus on safety and supervisor training for our management team. We want to ensure that our managers and installers have a high level of fire safety awareness and up-to-date training on installing fire protection measures correctly and to the highest quality.
We also consider it essential to equip our apprentices with the skills they need to make the best possible start in their careers, with a strong foundation of practical knowledge to achieve quality outcomes on every project they work on.
